My OptionVue Experience

Thanks Kevin! The problem was fixed after I checked "G/L to include previously realized G/L's". I guess it is not checked automatically when you create a new account.

Option Workshop has no additional charges for data. We also take no per-trade commission. We operate via a CQG continuum connection, so you will have to pay for this (you can ask your broker, price is ~ 15-25$/mo.)

As for the Option Workshop price, currently it is free. You can renew your free subscription monthly. We are planning on starting prices at 50USD/mo. for basic functionality, though we haven't made any concrete decisions yet.

I'm a new RTT trader and have been using ONE for analysis but have been having trouble with the colors of the T+ lines and distinguishing between sets of them when doing adjustment modeling, due to the closeness of the lines. I've been thinking about switching to OV because of these issues and because both Tom and Dan's work is all in OV. But, I'm concerned in reading this thread as I also would be using OV with TOS and my computer is not as powerful as Scott's, although it's a PC laptop, not a Mac. Mine has an Intel Core i3 2.40 GHZ cpu and 4 GB of memory, running under Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Am I likely to have these communication, lost keystroke problems?

I recommend taking advantage of their two week trial and try OV as see if you experience performance issues. I keep the symbol count under 500 which results in a tolerable experience for me.

I anticipate sticking with OV for another 1-2 years at least. OV has spent years refining their volatility modeling which is the most complex aspect of options analysis. I believe it will be another 1-2 years before ONE has their volatility model refined to the point that I feel comfortable switching. I do plan on obtaining a ONE trial in August and perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised.

I am happy to see the competition which will only benefit us traders.

Thanks for the post, Scott. I'm going to check the OV hardware requirements. I suppose if I have to get a new laptop, I can. There is a lot to like about ONE. It is simple and easy to use. They are very quick to answer questions both by email or their chat window. Nicolas Bender, in support, is very helpful. I have some color blindness and am having trouble with their T+ lines which are in pastel colors. I'm waiting to hear if they can be changed (I don't think so). It would be helpful if they used dashed lines like OV, but they don't. Also, when doing adjustment modeling, at least with butterflies, the two sets of T+ lines are bunched together at the bottom of the risk graph and are hard (for me) to tell apart. I don't think the risk graph can be stretched vertically (again, waiting to hear but I don't think so). Just some things for you to look for in August.

You may check&uncheck the plot box, to compare two T+0 lines.
