A bit about going full time

Yes, primarily I transitioned from a high gamma to low gamma trade.

A bit about going full time

Here are some of my suggestions for going full time. I learned this from my own experience. 1. Do not base your financial plan on averages. They don't exist in real life. 2. Therefore, do not expect to draw down to pay for living expenses on a monthly or even quarterly basis. Plan on longer...

Be Careful Evaluating P&L on TOS

One thing to note is the P&L in the Analyze page is not based on actual mid prices but rather on TOS simulated model prices. That's true for both Simulated Trades as well as Existing Position in the Analyze page. If you set the model to individual IV, the difference between simulated P&L and...

thoughts of experience trader on all income trading strategies

No, not in the form of black swan hedges that was a popular discussion few months back in this community. I would very much like to but find the cost too high. So, yes, i limit my trading size to a fraction of my total capital.

thoughts of experience trader on all income trading strategies

Marcas, My opinion is based on my personal experience. I have been through margin calls before and they weren't pleasant experiences. Brokers can increase their margin requirements overnight without explanations. While those were unpleasant experiences for me, I have known personal friends who...

thoughts of experience trader on all income trading strategies

There are many ways to trade profitably. There is no "best" way. Only what is most suitable for you. The most profitable strategy isn't the best strategy if it doesn't fit your lifestyle and most importantly your psychological make up. Therefore, when you evaluate the suitability of a trading...

Sheridan Mentoring $4k on 20K monthly

Teddy, Thank you for the link. Good video. Two key take aways for me : 1. Never base your trading plan on high leverage, regardless how safe the trading plan might seem. Retail traders blow up accounts on average in 9 month, mostly due to leverage. This actually is my personal red line...

Sheridan Mentoring $4k on 20K monthly

The best way to handle it is the "Delete" button. No need to waste time. Impossible to go through so many unsubstantiated claims. The so-call educators prey on trader's in-built desire to find the "holy grail". Traders are just too curious to find out if there is another trade that is better...

SPY: Overnight Black Swan Waiting Time?

This is a good chart. It does show an important point - it's not the absolute movement that matters but rather how much were you paid when you entered the position vs actual market movement that's important.

SPY: Overnight Black Swan Waiting Time?

Some historical data that might be of interest to some of you. This table shows all the dates since 1990 when SPX dropped more than 4% in a single day (that's approx 100 pts drop today). A couple observations : 1. Majority of the big drops happened during the 2008/2009 financial crisis. The...

SPY: Overnight Black Swan Waiting Time?

I am assuming hedging actual deployed risk for options only. Does not include other portfolio. I would love to be able to achieve a hedge cost of 0.2% per month with VIX calls. That's fantastic. Can you show an example of how that can be done ?

SPY: Overnight Black Swan Waiting Time?

This is a good topic. I have some thoughts on BS and hedges. I know some people will likely disagree but I'll share anyway.... 1. I think by nature of black swan, it's unpredictable, timing wise and cause wise. There is no point trying to predict when it'll happen next and due to what reasons...

    Major Performance Issues with ToS

I set 512 as the min and the max is I think 20+GB. Can't remember. I asked TOS tech support sometime ago. They told me to keep a wide spread between min and max. Not sure why. Actual usage is normally between 4-8GB. But GPU utilization does go up a lot when I open many graphs.

    Major Performance Issues with ToS

I upgraded my desktop PC to the latest 7th gen Intel CPU, 32GB RAM, 1070 nVidia GPU... works like a charm. Now I can open lots of TOS windows, lots of RTD links. No problem. Worth the investment in my opinion.

    Fooled by Randomness

Sergei, I actually agree with what you said but with a twist. Algorithmic trading is some kind of TA but it's not the TA we are talking about. Algo trading happens to be something that I'm very interested in and I'm spending quite a lot of my time researching and doing it. Fact is the bulk of...

    Fooled by Randomness

This is a never ending debate and I have no intention to stir up one here. Intention is just to show something I thought was interesting. Yes - people do make a living reading charts, but so do fortune tellers. :) Agree - Bulkowski is great. I like his books because they are fact based...

    Fooled by Randomness

Many years ago, I read a book called Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Taleb, the author who also wrote the book The Black Swan. https://www.amazon.com/Fooled-Randomness-Hidden-Markets-Incerto/dp/0812975219 The main theme of the book is that our brains evolved to be great at pattern recognition, a...

A bit about going full time

I quit a high paying corporate management career to go full time trading. There are a few things I realized were important in my journey. Let me share with those who have similar career path. 1. Firstly - the main reason is I quit a comfortable high paying job is I enjoy the freedom of trading...
