A14 Workshop - Any good?

Has anyone taken Amy Meissner's A14 Core Workshop? Is the performance that she claims really that good? Have people who have tried her course gotten similar results? Just curious what people think overall about the workshop and it if is worth it.

Thank you for this question Joe, I have been looking closely at Amy's value proposition with the A14 to determine if its something that would compliment my trading efforts. High compliments to Amy's posts she has done on YouTube with her $80K Truck topic. Very convincing if you haven't taken time to view those posts. -dave

@JoeH - I would recommend Amy's A14 course, especially to folks who are new to options trading. It really is a "follow the rules" strategy so if you follow the rules you are highly likely to realize solid profits. I bought it back in 2023 as my entry level introduction to options trading because at the time I needed to spin a lot of income from my retirement savings without drawing down. The issue was paying nursing home costs without going broke. I did a lot of research and concluded that trading options would be the best path and A14 had a documented history of significant success, so that's where I started. Having said that, if you are already an experienced options trader you might just dive into the advanced course because it contains a good summary of the initial course, just lacking many of the examples. Amy also has an alert service which you might want to join for a few months just to see how it's working in practice. However, it's most important to understand the method well enough to create setups and design adjustments on your own, at which point you no longer benefit much from the alert service. In fact, alerts have an issue with participants getting poor fills because too many are trying to place identical orders simultaneously.

A14 is basically a once-per-week trade, entered Friday morning. I eventually figured out that helps it roughly align with volatility cycles. Two scenarios to be cautious about:

a) avoid trying to rescue a trade that gets into trouble on the downside. A14 is not very robust on downside & better to book a small loss than let it ride off a cliff. Downside also often leads to whipsaw which can really do damage if you chase it.
b) avoid carrying a trade through the second weekend. I had a bad experience doing this, largely related to today's geopolotics, but Amy closed the same trade on Friday with a smal profit.
Good luck with it!

I would recommend Amy;s courses. She is a professional not a hype-person. She includes the backtest of the strategy as part of the course. I would pay that much if I knew that someone detailed enough is going to do the detailed backtest.

Just FYI I have ended up taking multiple of Amy;s courses and rather than A14, TimeEdge is my consistent weekly strategy.

Cheers!

Thank you for the input. Do you trade the TimeEdge in SPY or SPX? I have both the A14 and the TimeEdge, however I mainly have been using the A14 (returning to Options). Why do you like the TimeEdge over the A14? I might have to open that class back up.

Hi Robin,
The A14 uses a lot of margin from the onset and my broker(Etrade) calculates required margin differently. The margin required is little when I open the trade and then if I have the trade open in the week of expiry, the margin increases. They have not been able to explain to me the exact formula they use to calculate the margin required.

ALso I started doing the TimeEdge more often pretty much every week now, so I concentrate on that rather than A14. I trade 2 lot SPX and use the Expanded Margin adjustment method. I have found the strategy very flexible and able to perform in different market conditions. I also like to hold trades more closer to expiry (upto 2-dte, sometimes 1-dte) and I dont have the margin issue with TimeEdge.

But both strategies are great. I also did the TimeZone test but I dont do it every week because I have experienced having to adjust it a lot more than TimeEdge.

AmitK,

Great info.
Can I ask what broker you use? Or perhaps a better question; what is the minimum account size needed for trading 2 SPX TimeEdge using the EM adjustment?

Thanks!

I use Etrade
I would reserve maybe 8K-10K for SPX 2 lot.. but you could run into situations where you need to adjust more. I have not looked at what Amy recommends anymore. I did the course last year and my current style is not exactly the rules-based one she has is in the course, but the fundamental elements are the ones she taught.
Cheers!
