27SEP2023 Live 0dte questions..

Why are you using only 1 day (weekend) between the two legs because of the low price ? Is it better to use 3 or 7 days for theta ?

cose your short leg going against you will not be covered by the long if dte is too far away
theta is just a factor...but you will not have a long "protection"

see it here:

Is that Tom's 0DTE trade room or something different? I cant find it in the library so that's why I thought it was Tom's trade room ... I do a lot of short term OTM calendars with a cheap hedge etc, so your screen shots of ATM? calendars looked really interesting

This was discussed in Tom's 0DTE live zoom session of 27SEP2023 (yesterday).
Probably the recording(0DTE trade room subsrcibers only I think..) will be available later .

Tomas,

Your trading style and approach to the markets speaks to me. You talked about building a book and not thinking in terms of one trade. I know that everyone in the room is very interested when you have an insight or give some tips. I can't always ask questions or respond in the room but I do download and replay the videos, etc... I have two questions...

1. In the trade you demoed on the 27th and one from a couple weeks ago, it looks like you went out 30 days and put on a butterfly below the market. We had a big move down and as of 9/28 a slight rally. In this trade you protected your butterfly with a couple of calendar positions on the way down. However, in the previous trade you protected with a butterfly expiring a few days before the original bf. Curious as to why cal in one and bf in another? Were the vols different?

2. Over the course of the next few weeks, would you be able to post your screenshots from TOS of the trades when you adjust? That way I could see when you butterfly off your spreads and as well as seeing how much the sep29 calendars helped and see when you took them off. I don't really know how much I can count on them for profit. I know you are a professional trader and your time is limited and this is a pretty detailed post, so no problem if you can't.

Ted ,
have a look at the position I demoed on the 27th,as of today looks like this:
You are right! cose of the vols much higher I hedged the position this way.

Is the 23 oct legs part of this trade? I suspect not since the 4175 still has value so you could not have closed it for .00
The 20 oct bf is a drag on the trade and perhaps it should be adjusted some more as only 5 out of the 10 were closed
This trade may not be doable if and when Schwab implements the changes for the calendars

"when Schwab implements the changes for the calendars" They are not going to implement any changes.
I Have 2 C.Schwab accounts and the Calendars trades are considered just like TD.
Trade list is there...the single on the 23oct are there to add the closed trades of expired dates

I am just going by some of the discussion on this schwabTDA transition subject here on Aeromir and supposedly they are implementing it on the cash indexes with the exception of the monthly or maybe they delayed it for some reason
On TD is not implemented yet but eventually they are planing to be the same

Not sure I understand which trade date has expired Was there some other trade that is not shown on this list ?

Regarding calendars margins and costs please ask directly CS. if you have an account.
The trade was discussed briefly in the 0DTE zoom meeting today. the recorded session will be available soon.

I did not see anything specific to calendars but there is a note that would exclude calendars from that written margin requirement for complex options spreads

2 All component option legs must have the same expiration date.

So based on that the calendar would be considered a naked leg so you would use the margin for the naked leg

Hey Tomas,
Thanks for posting the trades. I've modeled them out in TOS.
Have you made more trades to adjust for the move up?

The position was closed with a combined profit of 6k.

No more adjustments after the one already discussed.

Evaluating the relationship between your long and short positions and considering factors like distance to expiration (DTE) and theta is indeed crucial for effective risk management.
