Alternatives to ONE

Hi
A german Optiontrader service named www.optionsuniversum.de offers an excel-based software tracking complex optionstrategies, visually with T+o lines and tracking also adjustments, with greeks, changing volatility etc. You can import real time date from IBKR. It is about 179.-€/year, so pretty cheap comparing to others, perhaps with less functions than ONE. It works pretty good, it is in english, you get support by phone or mail. You can try it for free for 2 weeks, when you give them a call, they are really nice and competent guys. See how it looks:

Additonal info to the optionsoftware from optionsuniversum: it doesn´t work with Apple Mac, neither OpenOffice, you need MS Excel.

I found a Italian trading platform with allot of cool features for options traders:

The software is in English and parts of the documentation too. But most youtube videos and allot of the documentation is only available in Italian unfortunately (I have used Google translate) .

It will keep track of PnL including adjustments similar to ONE.

One very interesting feature is automatic continuous delta-hedging. I have only started to play around with it. But a interesting idéa.

It can connect to InteractiveBrookers and Deribit (for bitcoin).

I have only tried it for 1 day but I think it looks very promising.

At https://www.beetrader.eu/shop/ the annual price with the back tester is 1275 Euros which is $1,444 USD roughly, which is more expensive that OptionVue with back trader. Curious what's different about it versus ONE and OV.

Over 50% of our community uses thinkorswim so not having thinkorswim data is an issue for most of us.

Continuous Delta hedging is interesting but tends to be difficult as it is essentially doing directional trading plus options trading. The best hedges for options are also options on the same underlying imo.

Yes, beeTrader is quite expensive. But since TOS is not an alternative for me (living in europe) and IBs platform is not very good I think it might be intresting for me since it is a full trading-platform (not just an analysis tool like ONE).
I have now tried it a couple of days and got some more experience. I must say I miss some features available in ONE. For example the What-IF analysis is much more detailed in ONE. I also miss the possibility to show multiple "projection lines" (with different days in the future). It will take some sacrifice to use stop using ONE.

I have tried the automatic-delta-hedger a bit. It is possible to use any instrument to hedge (even other options). But I think you are right Tom - it is probably hard to make money using this.

There is also another feature called "Planning" that I will take a closer look at soon. It is kind of a trading-robot-light.
You can set up actions for the future to for example:
If delta (or other geek or value of underlying) of for example one leg is bellow a specified value then roll specified legs up or down (or other actions). It sounds like a good solution if you are not sitting at the computer all day. It is not fully automated since you need to specify exactly what legs to close and open (or roll) in each automation. But if you set it up it can do for example one roll I each direction automated untended.
You can also set up a rule that close all positions in the trade when reaching a specified PnL.
The planning rules can be "forward tested" with simulated price/vol fluctuations in a simulated future.

What are available sources for market data in Europe? Live or delayed. Does brokers provide that data?
If there is a good reliable data source to use - writing a code is not such a big deal, especially if done on small scale.

I checked beeTrader and it has some good features (I'm not 100% positive if I read pics correctly) that are useful and also unique. Price is a barrier for small traders. I do not know if professionals would be interested... Bee has many functions - question is if those are useful functions and if are worth the price.
Well, competition is...

It's really sad to see that both ONE and OV are so ancient that they can't run on contemporary HW and OS. I'm down to running ONE on Amazon Workspaces, which is basically a cloud desktop that streams the UI to our screen. I'm sure Microsoft etc have a similar offering. It works reasonably well.

I am running ONE on a new PC with Windows 10 - and have no issues. Haven't tried windows 11 yet - but it will probably work.
Are you talking about running it on a Mac?

I have been a user of ONE for about 2-3 years and use it mainly to simply track and have open P&L diagrams on 20-30 open trades mainly in RUT and SPX. I generally launch a trade like a 30-45 day out BWB and then make adjustments as the trade progresses and I like that it keeps track of my closed and open P&L and shows me a P&L diagram of the whole of the trade from it's inception.

I have run ONE on a MacBook with an i9 intel processor and running parallels and it has done fine. That said, I just bought a new M1 MacBook and installed Parallels on it, but it seems ONE is not installing and the team at ONE basically says I am trying to install it in an unsupported environment - so I am on my own.

While I like ONE for what it does, I have felt for years that there should be some similar type of program out there that would be cloud based and platform agnostic at this point, but have not found it - does anyone have any ideas? I have looked at OptionVue, but it also seems very "dated". Wingman did not seem to have the P&L Diagram aspects that I like so much in ONE and OptionStat looks GREAT on the surface, but it stops short of actually doing any trade tracking or adjustments of trades - so ANY thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Finally - if there are any techies out there that might have a workaround for installing ONE on Parallels on an ARM based chipset, here is a brief 1 min video that shows my install attempts and corresponding error messages: https://www.loom.com/share/db2a9ac7ccb443eb8aa9ec1f2ebf41ef
Steve, I am also using m1 Mac. I couldn't find a way to run ONE on my Mac, so I bought a Windows VPS server which runs on the cloud. I connect to remote PC using Microsoft Remote Desktop.

Zulfat - which VPS did you use and how much is it?
I tried a couple - but I also like to put ONE up on my 49" monitor and I could not get the various VPS's to support that graphically, so I bought a basic windows laptop and Remote Desktop into it and it has been working OK - but just wish ONE would come to the modern era of cloud based software.

Hello,

I created a companion service to speed up backtesting and it's called MesoSim: https://portal.deltaray.io
After spending days of manual backtesting (my pace was 1 hour spent for 1 year worth of backtesting) I decided that this should be automated.
The software is able to automatically backtest options strategies with adjustments, analyzing the results and exporting the result to ONE.
Performance was very important aspect of the development and I'm happy to say that we are one of the fastest backtesters for options on the market.

We have recently modeled and optimized Dan Harvey's Boxcar trade using MesoSim.
You can read more about it in the following blog-posts:
- Boxcar Trade: https://blog.deltaray.io/boxcar-trade
- Boxcar-NG - An optimized Boxcar trade: https://blog.deltaray.io/boxcar-ng-an-optimized-boxcar

Link to the Boxcar-NG run: https://portal.deltaray.io/backtests/437384a3-b1a5-4998-bb99-a46dcaaa5f9f

Hope it will help you in the future,
Tibor

Looks interesting
What does the NG stand for ?
Looks like the 0DTE IC is not looking too good based on this back test

@status1 : NG stands for NextGen.
The naming was inspired by a linux package, called syslog-ng which improved on it's predecessor: syslog. :)

0DTE IC is profitable for 2022, but it is a wild ride. I don't recommend trading it :)

I tried to use it but it seems like it has minimal settings with no adjustment options but maybe I don't know how to use it
Is there some instructions to explain how to use it ?

Also you said that it can be exported to ONE I did not see any settings that mentions that

@status1 : Please take a look at our docs, it explains the core concepts and describes our approach of defining option trading strategies: https://docs.deltaray.io/

The documentation around ONE export is located here: https://docs.deltaray.io/export-to-optionnetexplorer

If you are looking for adjustments the built-in [Strangle] template can give you a good starting point.
The docs also has a dedicated section on adjustments: https://docs.deltaray.io/job-definition-reference#adjustment
Please note that the templates are just starting points, you need to clone them and change based on your needs in the JSON editor.

Hope this helps to get you started!

Thanks for the link
I was able to import it into ONE
Is it possible to set the adjustment to take profit at a certain percentage ?

@status1:
You can use the MoveLegAdjustment to close a leg and move it to the strike you like (based on delta, vega, fixed points, etc).
The take profit part can be done via the ProfitTarget parameter and you can define it by writing a Lua statement which calculates your point of exit. Probably the easiest is to calculate based on the underlying (e.g. `underlying_price*0.3`), but it is also possible to calculate the Take Profit based on the credit received.

Hmm... I am not sure how setting the profit target on the underlying would work
I mean in case of a theta decay the underlying should not have to move in order to make profit
How would I change it to make it based on the credit received ?

Hi Tom. I’m interested in trying Amazon workspaces just for ONE and Think Or Swim to feed data to ONE. I want to get a new MacBook so interested to test this out first since ONE doesn’t work with the new Apple chips. Sounds like you’re doing the same. I heard it’s free, but are you finding there is a cost and if so, how much? Also, not quite sure how to set this up. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Amy
