i've been using finviz for quite a while but i only recently registered on the web site. registering lets you do a few
things unregistered users can do, such as save screens. i have a java program that i use for custom screens
i wrote but lately i've been playing more with other screens and saving them on the web site. i learned a few
tricks, that may not be widely known, that i'll share.
if you set up a screen with their filters for fundamental, technical and descriptive parameters and then look at the
url, you'll see that all the filters are incorporated in the url. so what this means is if you have the url stored you don't have to
login to the website and select your saved screen, you can just paste the url into your favorite browser and it will run
the screen.
if you look at some of the filter options in its drop-down list, some of them have "Custom (Elite only)". i don't have the elite
membership, so theoretically i can't use this option. but, what this seems to let you do is combine some of the filters, such
as in the candlestick filter you can select spinning top white or spinning top black, but you can only select one of them.
however, if you edit the url with the proper filter abbreviation you can add an "or" function by using the or symbol "|".
for example this is a url for a spinning top white:

the filter abbreviation for the candlestick is ta_candlestick_stw. if you edit it to be ta_candlestick_stw|stb you'll get both.
you can do this for any option that has the custom selection. you'll have to select a filter and then look at the url to
figure out the abbreviation.
another "filter" you can use is to specify the ticker symbols in the "Tickers:" field. once you get past typing in 10 or so symbols
it gets pretty tedious. but now with your new-found knowledge of the finviz url and some scripting and editing you can
create much longer lists of symbols. i did some of this scripting and editing for you. i parsed symbol lists for the nasd100,
the ibd 50, and the dividend aristocrats. the list for the dividend aristocrats is a few years old and it's a shorter list now.
my list is 107 but the current list is 57, i think. anyway, here's the 3 urls for these. i have my own personal filter parameters
in these but once you load it in finviz you can change or add other filters as you please.
