Interesting Charts dujour!

Is this a “one off” or are there likely more of these hidden away ?
A couple of them barely missed the iceberg I just heard about Morgan Stanley on CNBC a couple of hours ago

Net short non-commercial positions in Cboe Volatility Index futures have shrunk for six straight weeks.

Volatility doesn’t lie.(most of the time.........)

Wane, I share the same opinion as, I think, you express through the graph.
I have similar one burned into my mind - South See and Newton's story.
But.
Red line, in prediction part, is only a guess. Blue line can levitate on this level for quite some time or can shoot up again - those are not impossible scenarios. You can put S&P, TSLA or other assets in the background and tell the same story. Bubbles are similar and easy to analyze... after the burst.
Would you go short here with more than play money? According to the graph it's an easy bet.
The same with mean line. Why it rises? Why it's straight? Does it have any meaning beside being an output of statistical calcs? Maybe red line wont level off in Despair section and make a big hole in the ground making dashed line dissapper and anybody who will buy Despair phase will loose 100+%.

It __will__ be obvious and easy to analyze in hindsight. As usual.

:)

Not to argue or anything. Just finished long screen day and when looked at your graph was hit by psychology a) behind people creating blue line b) behind people reading the graph. Which group traders belong to?

Bond investors seem to be more edgy than stock investors. In fact, the implied vol of Long-bond ETF (TLT) is now trading above that of the stock ETF (SPY).
