Randomwalktrading review

I was wondering if anyone here tried Randomwalktrading after the video presentation last Tuesday or maybe if you are currently a member
I find Randomwalktrading disappointing to say the least

You would think if you come here and make a presentation that you want new members so you would have your website set up for that but that is not the case
I tried to sign up for a free membership and the link takes me to another webpage with a 404 error "Couldn't find that page"

Ok so I figured maybe it's just a glitch so I tried to contact the admin email address and to this day I never got a reply

Than I contacted Ed about something else He mentioned in the video that the subscription for the Option In Action OIA is $60 but on the website is only $50 He said that's because the $60 includes SMS messages but if you look on the website there is no mention of this It just says SMS trade alerts (optional) nothing about paying an additional $10 That is not an option that is a requirement

So at the same time I also mentioned the problem with the website and he said he will let the office know and see what we can do so I figured maybe in a couple of days this would be fixed but it's not If he is referring to the same "office" where the admin email goes to than I am not surprised nothing was done I don't think he has any office personnel otherwise someone would have lifted a finger to answer my email

I also asked Ed about the 2 week trial he mentioned in the video which there is no such thing on the website He said "I can get the office to set you up on a 2 week trial"
Of course nothing happened since he has no office staff

In the video he mentioned the link to the dashboard and he said "you can play with it"Nope Maybe after you buy it you can play with it but not on the website.

According to the website the regular price is " Regular: $495.00 (1 Year Access)" but currently on sale for $299.00 but with the (1 Year Access) it sounds to me like that is just a rental price and you don't really own it forever which is not really worth it at that point

I looked around on the website and a lot of the videos are from 2018 like nothing was updated since then I looked a little closer to the error page by the link in the address bar (Leadpages.com) it looks like it's some kind of web hosting company So this leadpages.com is hosting randowalktrading so the problem is with the web hosting company that messed up the link to the free membership but I think that was done a long time ago and nothing was done about it I suspect maybe after covid a lot or all the staff left or got sick and never came back so Ed is by himself with malfunctioning website but that's just speculation on my part

I will update this review if something improves but I am not keeping my hopes up

I've used them for a month and I plan to cancel. Along with issues you highlighted above, my biggest problem is that Ed uses Simulated (Paper) Trading in TOS to make trades and send Alerts on fills in Paper Trading. I found these fills absolutely unrealistic in the real trading and the real performance is far lower than what presented in service.

Are there any paid services, which you have found useful as an option trader?

The only one which has been worth the money for me has been OptionNet Explorer software to monitor the trades.

And some of the John Locke courses have been useful for understanding butterflies.

I used to follow Tom Sosnoff, and lost quite a bit of money, and found it too risky and too time intensive to manage strangles and iron condors.

I have tried a few others which were also not very useful for me.... theotrade, steadyoptions, simplertrading.

Dan sheridan ...some of his courses were helpful when I first started off.

LeadPages is a service to build web pages to convert visitors to customers. I subscribed to them when they first started but ended up doing the coding myself most of the time so I canceled. If you setup a sales page with them and later cancel, I'm sure that's what caused the error message. LeadPages doesn't host your website...only the sales page where you are trying to convert someone to either a customer or someone on your mailing list.

I agree that Dan Sheridan is good for the basics. I was one of Dan's earlier mentoring students and later was his IT guys for 6-1/2 years.

Thanks for the detailed explanation
That's more than I got from them
Why would Ed cancel if he has nothing else to replace it with ?

Just by coincidence I got an email from admin about an hour ago wanting to confirm my email address before sending me any information I guess they don't answer any questions right away or it's just a way to confirm my email so they can send me more sales pitches
I am sure it's just a bot sending out these messages to everyone that is on their mailing list
Obviously they know my email address because they sent another email after that inviting me to a webinar on July 21
When they want something from me they can easily contact me but when I ask them a question no one replies for a week
I will play along just to see if this leads anywhere and see if the communication improves I doubt it though

Here is a screenshot of the web page I am getting when I click on the free membership link
Notice the web address at the top it's no longer on the randomwalktrading.com website

LeadPages pages is hosting the error page. The main site is a different domain and not hosted by LeadPages:

I am a fan of Dan Sheridan, just about all of the mentors out there came through or were affiliated with him at some point, it really is just about all of them. I know some lose interest in him after a while, as he does stick to teaching the same content year after year, maybe it gets a bit boring, but it is a good solid approach.

Theotrade is another great site/service, with rock solid and voluminous content and a reasonable price. I am in a Discord Group where the guy who runs it is constantly posting ideas gleaned from Theotrades daily content.

And, while I am not a current subscriber, I think that Tom's Boxtrade service is excellent. I participated when it was free, and once I have time to actually implement a trade that requires a good level of monitoring, probably will again. The level of content and evolution of the trade provides tremendous learning and insight. I trade through IB and Fidelity, but based upon seeing Tom's use of TOS and its RTD functions, funded a TOS account just to use the power of RTD. It has transformed how I monitor things. When I first heard Dan Harvey say he basically just monitors his Boxcar trades via a spreadsheet and not a risk graph, I was skeptical, but now see how it is done.

I have been going back and watching some of the historical content on Aeromir, a lot of it is excellent. It takes a lot of time, but rarely do I watch something and not see something that I take note of. It is interesting to see how the Boxcar trade evolved over time, I think it probably had its routes with the Space Trip Trade that was discussed in some of the segments back in the 2016/2017 time frame.

I am not sure how did you get there... my randomwalktrade membership is hosted there:
That is interesting This is just my guess but you go to that link only after you are paid member which has a slightly different address
randomwalktrade instead of randomwalktrading which is the main website so if you go to the main website and you follow the link to the free membership you will get that error page

This is an additional issue which is similar to the free membership but if you click on the OIA link for the first time after you go to the website
and you do not do anything for more than 30 seconds in other words you do not click on the subscribe link the page will change to a similar error page "couldn't find that page" but at least it stays on the randomwalktrading page so you can refresh the page and that it will stay on the OIA page

LeadPages pages is hosting the error page. The main site is a different domain and not hosted by LeadPages:
I understand that but that is where that link takes me when I click on the free membership I am not doing anything to change the address
Also not sure how you get to that login link because I don't see that on the website maybe that is revealed after you are a member
Even if I type in that login address there is just an empty page It's not asking for username or password so not sure how you would use that to log in unless somehow it magically shows up after you are a member

I really love Ed's techniques for starting with a basic vertical and how he builds on it, depending on how the market is moving. I downloaded his historical trade progressions and found them educational.

I also use the service, find it valuable, learned a lot and make money...you should get the 2 week trial so you can see if is for you...no problem with fills on my end so maybe a bad example you encountered...the weekly videos are good to understand the trade set up and what the plan is based on market movement....more winners than losers for sure...market movement helps because the set ups are looking to take advantage of movement...you get access to the trading room where screen shots and trade log text files are posted at trade execution for import to your platform to quickly analyze for your own decisions...well worth the money...there may be some set up issues but once you get in it works well.

The roots of the Boxcar go much farther back than the STT. Dan Harvey was trading iron condors in 2006 when I was a Sheridan Mentoring student. Dan later addressed the grinding higher markets by doing an unbalanced iron condor...the Weirdor (Amy Meissner renamed it for SMB to the Asymmetric Iron Condor [AIC]). Amy, then Tim Pierson took turns running a Boxcar trade alert service with Aeromir. Dan and I used to run the Road Trip Trade Alerts a few years ago so it's been really great to have weekly meetings with Dan again. He's a really good friend and a great trader and teacher! The evolution of the Boxcar has been really fun to participate in. When I first built my own version of Dan's spreadsheet in March, I had no idea I would have so many updates and improvements. (49 different versions and counting!)

Status 1, I was a paying member of Random Walk for almost a year. I signed up after I saw Ed's post where he made $27K on a trade and that year he made about $100K. This was several years ago. After I joined the sample trades had a rough go and didn't make any money for months and drew down for a while. The market had changed in the second year with a larger and larger ATR's and the techniques endorsed by RW didn't work anymore.

I lost money following along and because I was a little more risk averse and adjusted or closed the trades sooner than Ed I minimized the losses.

There are several things I didn't agree with:

1. They say don't pay retail. That doesn't mean try to hit or beat the mid, but beat by .50 or 1.00. What usually happens is the setup you liked where the market was at the time you decided to enter has to move a good bit to hit your order and then the setup doesn't really apply. I have no problem trying to get a good price but if I like a setup I want to enter the trade.

2. They rely on probabilities way too much and don't really take immediate risk into account. For example, if you have on a BWB and the market gets close to the short strike the T+0 line usually shows a significant drop as you go further along inside the tent. I have always adjusted to mitigate that risk before you get into too much trouble. They say no, probabilities on entry showed that there was a low probability of going beyond the initial strikes and so you wait it out because the market will come back. A lot of trades ended up at or close to the max loss possible....that's where I either adjusted or got out and save a lot of money by mitigating my risk

3. The group sessions where they pick the next sample trade are voted on by the group and mostly end up using the hot stock of the moment which usually doesn't reflect the behavior of the indexes at large so the learnings are always transferable.

That said, Ed is a really nice guy and easy to work with.

If you want anymore info or want to talk, let me know.

Chuck

Thanks Chuck Moore for your review I appreciate it
I agree with the ATR being larger and making trading the SPX more difficult

I was on the webinar that I was invited to yesterday but I am not sure if this is part of the 2 week trial or not because I still don't have access to the website I was never told if I am on the trial or not He said that the recording is available but how do you get the recording if you have no access to the website

He went over the current trades which was no use to me since he was already in the trade
Than he set up a couple of new trades one on AAPL and the other on AMZN he set up a risk reversal but never got into how to set it up he just picked the strikes that he is probably familiar with and selected the strikes to kind of eyeball the price he was expecting to get so I did not learn much from that He picked those because the earnings are coming up and they are already in an uptrend

On thing he did which was kind of interesting is he did not place the trade at the mid he use the analyzer tab and adjusted the price of the underlying down to where it may pull back which showed a loss on the p/l and than adjusted the fill price of the spread to bring it close to breakeven and than placed a conditional order using that value the theory being that if the underlying goes down he would get filled at a much better price than if he was filled at the mid price Of course this only works on TOS as other brokerages don't have this conditional order fill capability

He never used the dashboard unless he maybe had it on another screen and selected those strikes based on that or he already knew from experience in any case it would be difficult to learn something just by watching him place trades without any explanation on where to place the trade

you should get the 2 week trial so you can see if is for you
I would like that but it's not up to me There is nothing on the website that I can click on to make that happen Ed would have to do something behind the scene or get the "office" which does not reply to my email to set that up
I got an invitation yesterday to one of the Thursday meeting but I was never told if this is part of the 2 week trial or not so I am not sure what is going on

SergB I created an account from that login link you provided but it seems that is not directly connected to the main website It seems that is just for billing as it has your subscriptions and invoices but you can't order anything or subscribe from this website it also has some basic videos

One thing I found interesting was that all the videos in the My video playlist was done by Scott from Stratagemtrade probably when he was still with Randomwalktrading many years ago

Status 1, They did do a fair amount of Risk Reversals while I was a member. I can't remember the entry criteria and/or strike selections because I'm not a big fan of RR's in general, especially the way they did them. If it went against you they were slow to adjust and very few times were they able to salvage the position.

That technique for getting a "good" price is a gimmick. It doesn't work the majority of the time and when it does, how do you know that was the best price at that moment? It's always in the Market Makers hands. You could have given up .05 or .10 on the displayed Mid (which isn't always what the Market Makers are willing to sell/pay for) and gotten filled on the trade you liked at the time. Most of the you have to wait, sometimes days and even when you do get hit on your "good" price it may be where the market doesn't fit your desired trade structure anymore. If you think the market is going to come back to your "good" price why don't you put on a trade that will make money on that move?

He does use the dashboard a good bit in the sessions. It's his own tool that he designed so he could determine a better price for a strike, but again, I'm not a fan of that methodology. Plus I think it adds a level of complexity that is not needed and doesn't really deliver any value IMO.

There is a lot of Scott Ruble material on the site because he was one of the founders of Random Walk and left due a disagreement on how to move RW forward.
