SPX VIX AFTER HOURS

SPX and VIX options trade after hours, between 2am and 815am ct. Unfortunately TOS doesn't allow trading access to this session, although you can see the quotes.
The only retail broker that I know of that allows trading access to this session is Interactive Brokers.
CBOE upgraded 24 hours trading but TOS does not want their clients to upgrade. I think they do this so a lot of people have to rely on /ES futures. for futures, the commission is way higher than indexes. sad but TRUE.

Taken at 2,10ET
P&L on SPX extended updating real time and prices in line with ES mini options. You can' t trade in TOS .
Note that for greeks you cannot use TOS since the price is the previous close ........but with any b&S model with the prices u can calculate IV and the rest of the greeks.
In case you can't see live data on the extended SPX,VIX session try to update TOS , download a newer version ,or call tos support for help.

Does this data runs all the time or just after Extended trading hours
So in other words I would not be able to see any changes at 6PM or at 9 AM ?
I do not see any changes after the market closes at 4PM and opens at 9:30AM
I am not going to get up at 2AM just to see the SPX data move
The only thing I see moving on the chart after hours is SPY and IWM as far as the etf's related to the indexes

As far as updating doesn't TOS do an update every time I login ?

Inability to trade full range of time SPX is trading is a negative. I do hope it is temporary issue with TOS. There may be many reasons this happens. I can think even of some that this lack of ability to trade after-hours are good for some traders. Anyway, I expect eventually all SPX trading hours will be available in TOS.

Thanks for update Tb2018. I do not follow closely this stuff as I moved back to long term trades. It was due to non-market relted stuff but looking at what is going on I'm pretty happy I did that.
How does liquidity look like in 'after-session' trading?

expanded GTH session would begin at 8:15 p.m. ET and run until 9:15 a.m. ET the following morning. Regular trading hours (RTH) then run from the U.S. market open at 9:30 a.m. ET until the market close at 4:15 p.m. ET. For each Monday business day, trading in GTH would begin Sunday evening.
For details please see CBOE web site.

Thanks

Regarding Liquidity: still very bad .....but I'm sure it will get much better (they just started 21 Nov 2021 ).
The point is that TOS now is updating the P&L in line with futures during the extended session and you can have a better idea of your risk.

LET me clarify again:
TOS: you can see the extended SPX,VIX trading values.BUT YOU CAN'T TRADE !
IB you can SEE the EXTENDED and you CAN TRADE !
NOTE THAT WHEN MARKET FOR SPX IS OUTSIDE REGULAR HOURS THE ONLY REFERENCE(ARBITRAGE)IS THE ES(FUTURES)CONTRACT!

Thanks. Observing GTH would be interesting and I will look at it when have bit more time. I hope I can use API to to that :)
As said I do not need GTH at the moment, I don't need GTH to tell me about my risk. I simply do not trust any platform with this even if I still trade small (so overall risk is small).
I'm with TOS and I favor it high above IB although I'd like to see some of IB stuff in TOS' platform (but others I strongly prefer not to see!). This is pesonal opinion though.
Trading GTH is a desirable feature, no doubt, and, as said, I expect to see it on TOS soon. If not, it may be necessary for some to open IB or other account just for GTH.

Let me see if I understand
So after regular trading hours SPX is at 4686.75 than trades trades overnight and before the next regular trading hours it jumps from whatever price was at GTH back to the previous day closing of 4686.75 than gaps up from there to the new price ?
Sounds kind of messed up to me

It doesn't look like 24 hours trading as in SPY or /ES where you can at least follow it on the chart and whatever the price was overnight it continues in the morning from the last trade seamlessly
SPX seems like 2 separate trading hours that are closely related but not continuous

I might have to check it at 9PM just to see it but it's pointless for TOS to even show the data if you can't show it on the chart as trading overnight

4686.75 is the regular close the reference price for SPX extended options is the ES (futures) spot market .
For more info see the CBOE link thanks

If they do that maybe that will stabilize these horrible option prices after trading hours so I can look at a relatively normal risk graph
but I guess that is asking too much

I checked it after 8:30 PM and there is movement in the option prices only which is kind of weird since SPX is not moving so I am guessing the data is coming from somewhere else Also the RTD is not showing the price changes so I guess that's because the data is not coming from the same place as it does during regular trading hours
Another weird thing is even though the option prices are changing the net change shows 0 for all the strikes so not sure who if anyone is using this and why even bother showing the price changes if you can't really trade it

I've asked TOS, this is their response:

"
At this time we have made a business decision not to offer SPX options trading in the new expanded extended session. When making this decision we consider factors such as cost, liquidity, and demand. We will continue to monitor the situation and if the demand is there to trade in this expanded session we will reevaluate the decision.

"

Just got a near identical response.

Curious as to how they know if demand is there if they don't allow trading
What extra cost is there ? Don't they already pass through the SPX index fees ?
Liquidity seems to be there I looked at it last night and the bid/ask spreads are a little wider but not too bad compared to RTH For some reason the OTM (10 delta) have tighter bid/ask spreads than ATM The ATM bid/ask spread was about 1.20 compared to about 0.60 for the RTH
I did not check the volume though
I guess they don't want to be one of the first , they want to follow the heard
After Schwab Etrade and Fidelity start trading it than they will go ahead and do it too like they did with dropping the commissions
because they don't want to loose customers over it Maybe that's what they mean by demand

Note:SPX is a derived index of the S&P 500 so outside regular hours Options prices will take as underline SPY and ES mini futures(taking into account the price difference between them, today spx/esmini is around 1usd.because ESZ21 will expire soon, after will be around 10usd ).

Curious as to where is this done
Does TD do all the calculation or it comes already calculated like that from CBOE or somewhere else ?
I was just wondering if I could get the data from this source using RTD

I have been "looking" at TDA-API at VIX and SPX since this started. They do not appear to be updating the BID/ASK of any options. They do post some trades, that I expected are "batched" for the reporting (as they are reported to occur at specific intervals only so far), and not timely. Again, this has nothing to do with trading, but only in "observing". I would not be surprised if this situation is temporary, and they begin to reflect bid/ask at some point.
